​Advanced Clinical and General Psychologists

 

The designation of Advanced Clinical Psychologist or Advanced General Psychologist at the Lightner Centre denotes the psychologist’s level of professional experience, clinical expertise, and depth of practice. Psychologists with this designation have more than 20 years of professional experience and bring an advanced level of clinical knowledge developed through decades of assessment and treatment across diverse and complex presentations. This extensive experience supports sophisticated case formulation, identification of underlying or interacting clinical factors, and the capacity to tailor treatment where difficulties are complex, longstanding, or have not responded to previous approaches. The consultation fee for Advanced Psychologists reflects this depth of experience and clinical expertise, providing clients with access to a highly experienced practitioner who can integrate evidence-based approaches with nuanced clinical judgement and an individualised understanding of each client’s presentation and treatment needs.

Clinical Psychologists

Clinical Psychologists are registered psychologists who have completed advanced postgraduate training in clinical psychology and hold endorsement in the area of clinical psychology with the Psychology Board of Australia. Their specialist training focuses on the assessment, formulation, diagnosis and evidence-based treatment of a broad range of psychological and mental health conditions. Clinical Psychologists are trained to integrate information about a person’s symptoms, history, functioning and broader circumstances to develop an individualised understanding of their difficulties and treatment needs. They work with presentations ranging from common mental health concerns through to more complex, persistent, or interacting psychological conditions, using evidence-based therapeutic approaches tailored to the individual.

General Psychologists

General Psychologists are registered psychologists who have completed the education, training and supervised practice requirements for general registration with the Psychology Board of Australia. They provide psychological assessment and evidence-based treatment across a broad range of emotional, behavioural, interpersonal, and mental health concerns. General Psychologists bring diverse professional backgrounds, therapeutic training ,and areas of clinical interest to their work. At the Lightner Centre, our General Psychologists use evidence-based approaches tailored to each client’s presentation, circumstances, goals, and treatment needs.

Clinical Psychology Registrars

​

Clinical Psychology Registrars are registered psychologists who have completed postgraduate qualifications in clinical psychology and are undertaking the Psychology Board of Australia’s registrar program toward endorsement as a Clinical Psychologist. Registrars provide psychological assessment and evidence-based treatment while undertaking a structured period of advanced supervised practice. During the registrar program, they receive ongoing supervision and professional development designed to consolidate advanced competencies in clinical assessment, formulation, diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation. Clinical Psychology Registrars can therefore be a suitable option for clients seeking evidence-based psychological care from a clinician with advanced postgraduate training in clinical psychology, while benefiting from the additional professional oversight and development associated with the registrar program.
