Personal Profile

Matt is an experienced Psychologist with a diverse professional background spanning correctional service, public health, and private practice. He began his psychological career with Queensland corrections before transitioning to Queensland Health, where he developed a strong interest in supporting individuals in rural communities. Matt has worked within acute care teams across Mount Isa, Dalby, and Toowoomba, gaining extensive experience supporting individuals in high intensity and complex clinical environments.

 

Throughout his career, met his work with children, adolescents, and adults experiencing a broad range of mental health difficulties. His varied clinical background has provided him with extensive experience supporting clients with complex presentations, with a particular clinical interest in working with individuals who experienced trauma and complex trauma backgrounds.

 

Matt has experience supporting clients with a range of presentations, including:

  • Anxiety & Mood Disorders

  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and Phobias

  • Trauma and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

  • Workplace and Interpersonal Stressors

  • Anger and Emotional Dysregulation

  • High-Risk and Self-Harming Behaviours

  • Personality Disorders

  • Alcohol and Drug Misuse Disorders

 

Matt's therapeutic approach is grounded in building strong rapport and working collaboratively with clients to develop interventions tailored to their individual needs. He emphasise his validation empathy shared problem-solving and the use of both internal and external supports to help clients move towards meaningful change. Matt recognises no two individuals are the same and believes that effective therapy requires a personalised and flexible approach.

 

Matt draws upon a range of evidence-based therapeutic approaches, including:

  • Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR)

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

  • Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

  • Interpersonal Psychotherapy

  • Motivational Interviewing

 

At the core of Matt’s work is a commitment to providing a supportive, respectful, and non-judgemental therapeutic space where individuals feel safe to explore their experiences. His approach is client-centred and collaborative, with a strong focus on helping clients build the skills, insight, and resilience needed to achieve their personal goals and improve their overall wellbeing.
